Springville Center for the Arts presents the Spring Art Crawl on May 3 from 6-9pm. Businesses on Main Street, Springville host temporary exhibits featuring the work of dozens of artists. Participants arrive at the corner of Main and Mechanic Streets, Springville, NY and receive a map of participating locations. Participants stroll through the Business District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The event is entirely free.

The show includes a variety of artwork including traditional oil paintings, watercolors, metal working, pottery, quilting and more. Musicians will perform at various locations on the street or in businesses. “Just Go With It,” a local theater improv group will perform at Springville Center for the Arts, 37 North Buffalo Street starting at 6:45pm.  Springville-Griffith High School students will display work, host demonstrations and auction off painted chairs at the end of the evening. VanOver Fine Arts will host an exhibit reception starting at 6pm for Geoff Schenkel.

Newcomers, a display of photographic portraits of refugees by Lukia Costello, will be on display at Arts Underground, 66 East Main Street. As, one of a handful of US cities that host refugee resettlement, Buffalo NY is an Ellis Island for a new era. From 2010 -2011 alone, 3000 refugees from countries like Burma, Somalia, and Bhutan have found new lives here. As an adult ESL (English as a Second Language) instructor with the Buffalo Public Schools, Costello had the honor of working with refugees on daily basis. A recent NYFA Independent Artist Commission, recipient, Costello’s work has been exhibited and locally, nationally and internationally. She is a member of the New York Times Freelance Pool and the American Society of Media Photographers.  An artist’s reception with free refreshments will occur throughout the evening and will transition into an after-party at 9pm.
