A message from the Executive Director

UPDATE (4/1/2020) We are currently closed to the public. Stay home, be safe, keep creating, stay positive. We will see you soon!

It goes without saying that we want everyone to be safe.

We were hoping to take a moment to talk about the other impacts Covid will have on Springville Center for the Arts.

Based on the guidelines, requirements and recommendations for public gatherings, most events through the beginning of May are cancelled or postponed. This includes Chris Rattie, Songwriters Showcase, Earth Day event, and Art Crawl. If you have already purchased tickets a staff member will reach out about your options.

At present, small workshops that are scheduled will continue. Rehearsals for The Sound of Music will be delayed but the performances are planned to continue.

Gallery hours will be reduced to 12-8 Thursday and 12-5 Friday until further notice.

Why are we taking this drastic step? When stocks are down, foundations reduce or eliminate grants. When business is disrupted, business sponsorships are hard to come by. When people are laid off from work they don’t tend to focus on charitable giving to arts organizations. We rely on the income from events to pay staff and keep the heat on. We are trying our best to preserve as many programs as possible. The outlook is just not good for arts programs for the remainder of this year and our hope is to buffer against these losses now to be prepared for summer programs.

We are going to try and develop programs appropriate for the times and hope the Center can be a bright spot during these challenges. With very limited staff, we are hoping to develop greater-social-distance-friendly art programs including alternative performance settings, outdoor chalk art for kids and other small setting workshops. Stay tuned.

How can you help? Buy tickets now to attend our gala on June 13. Donate to support our summer programs. Or volunteer to help with an event.

In the meantime we will focus on making as much headway with ongoing projects as possible – You can’t keep a good arts center down.
