SPARK!
a creativity-based program at Springville Center for the Arts for ages 2-5
Is your child a tinkerer? Do they love to explore? It’s about the process, not the product. The goal of the program is to improve overall learning and creative problem solving skills through contact with the arts. Plus it’s just a lot of fun!
The program is influenced by the approach used in the Reggio Emilia region of Italy which stresses play, curiosity, the many languages of children, peer-to-peer learning, teachers as partners, the learning environment, and respect for the potential of the child.
Springville Center for the Arts is a multi-arts center that presents performances, exhibitions, education and other arts programs. As a catalyst for creative inspiration and development, SCA encourages direct participation in the arts by all segments of our community.
Spark! is cooperative in nature and parents of participating children usually get involved in some way. It is a drop off program and parents are discouraged from being at the session every time but we do schedule a volunteer parent for those who are able.
We occasionally bring guests to the sessions and past visitors have brought drumming programs, sing-a-longs, nuts and bolts, and puppets.
Sessions run year round approximately following the school calendar. You are welcome to stop in on a Friday and try it out. Call 716-592-9038 or email scakingsley@gmail.com for more information. Sessions are held at Arts Underground, 66 East Main Street.
