SLAM Auditions: American Idiot
American Idiot is a sung-through adaptation of Green Day’s punk-rock opera of the same name. The story centers around three young men who grow disillusioned with their suburban surroundings. One joins the military. One turns to drugs. One stays home with his pregnant girlfriend. In addition to several male and female leads there is an ensemble.
SLAM is the name for Springville Center for the Arts’ summer musical theater production open to those entering High School or College.
Rating Information: This show tackles contemporary issues facing American youth including drug use, teen pregnancy, and war related violence. While we intend to treat these subjects with care and believe the arts should provide a dialog, participation in this show may not be suitable for all ages and families. Please feel free to contact the Center with questions at 716-592-9038.
Auditions are Wednesday, January 11 3:30-5:30 p.m. or Thursday, January 12 5-7 p.m. Be prepared to perform any musical theater song. Auditionees may be asked to read from a script, try songs from the show or perform a short group dance number. Auditions will be held at the Mongerson Theater, Springville Center for the Arts, 37 N Buffalo Street, Springville, NY 14141. Call 716-592-9038 for directions or other information.
Show dates are July 27, 28, 29 & August 4, 5 at 8pm and July 30 & August 6 at 2pm
We are also seeking technical crew – especially those interested in working with live video streaming, set construction and more.
We are also seeking pit musicians to play in a rock setting: Electric Bass, Electric Guitar, Drum Kit, and several orchestral parts which could be filled by strings, sax, flute or keyboard. Attendance at auditions is not mandatory for technical or pit roles but it is an ideal time to get involved in the production. Email scaseth @ Gmail. com or call 716-592-9038
We are following a new condensed rehearsal schedule and approach this year which requires a strong commitment to the production. Auditions will be conducted by Seth Wochensky, Executive Director and Julie Noeson, SLAM Advisor. Rehearsals will begin at the end of June after High School lets out. The program will be overseen by SLAM alumnus Liz Bligh who will join the production staff later in the Spring. The full rehearsal schedule is posted here:
