The Ladles came to Springville as artists-in-residence for three weeks in August 2020. As an emerging group based out of New York City, bandmates Caroline Kuhn, Katie Martucci and Lucia Pontoniere performed at Springville Center for the Arts in January of 2020, and plans for the internship began immediately.

Cat Johnson from Goodtimes SC describes them as “Masters of three-part harmony, The Ladles…blend swing, old-time, folk and more to create a handcrafted, down-home sound that brings to mind nights spent making music on the back porch while fireflies flit about and good friends catch-up. The sound is spacious and lovely. With instrumentation that impresses, harmonies that inspire and an ability to capture the richness of the folk tradition without getting stuck in the past, The Ladles is a quiet stand out of the roots genre.”

Over the course of their three-week stay, The Ladles will created for a new album, “Springville Sessions” using the Carol Mongerson Theater as their backdrop. In addition to writing, rehearsing and recording music, they also performed live with a very limited audience capacity in socially distant settings, as well as creating the compact disc cases for their new album in a printmaking workshop at Springville Center for the Arts. They returned in October to shoot the video for “Pages”. Coming soon.
