Springville Center for the Arts (SCA) seeks a Music Education Intern with experience in accompaniment for a summer-long residency program in Children’s Theater. The Music Education intern will work with a team of performance and visual arts interns.
Participants will:
- Craft a touring theater program for elementary age children. Participants may perform in a theatrical role or solely as accompanist.
- Teach/direct a variety of workshops including musical theater for grades 4-8, choir, ukulele, Pre-K sessions and more. Class topics are based on the skill set of the applicants.
- Accompany, conduct the pit and/or provide musical direction on a larger scale musical production starring local high school and college students.
The program begins immediately after the Spring semester and ends mid-August (13 weeks).
Springville Center for the Arts is a growing multi-arts center located in a rural community in Western New York State. A Children’s Theater Internship has been successful for many years. This is the first year we are expanding to a specific music education position. An apartment shared with other interns and a stipend of $150 per week is provided.
Requirements
- Strong piano skills for accompaniment
- Ability to perform for children
- Because of legal requirements, you must be seeking a degree in an arts or education related field: Music Education, Theater, Musical Theater, Music Performance, etc.
- Comfort working with, teaching, and/or leading children in a workshop setting
- Self-initiative. Participants work with staff to create programs.
- You must be comfortable with many areas of theater production, musical performance and education. Interns work in a collaborative environment.
