Mary Ann Fritz has been creating works of art for many years, having discovered sewing when she was a teenager and then watercolor and oils soon after. When given a set of silk paints and asked to experiment with them and teach a class, she jumped on the idea and never looked back. She has been painting and dying fabric ever since. Mary Ann loves to find new ways of applying color to fabric, which includes such techniques as nature printing, screen printing, ice dying, stamping, shibori, sun printing, colored pencils and monoprinting. She begins her art pieces on plain white fabric using washes of color and layer upon layer of paints applied differently for each piece. Then, she frequently makes her own carved stamps to add bold images to the fabrics, and then finishes with quilting stitches and the embellishments which add texture and depth to her art works. Nature is an important part of her life and frequently shows up in her finished products.
