VISUAL ARTS

Spark!
This creativity program includes painting, dance, theatrical storytelling, story making, acting out scenes, and general art-making mayhem. “Sparkers” work with guest artists, our visual arts and theater interns or just explore on their own. $30 for all six sessions. (AU)

Public Art Corps: Grades MS/HS

It’s time to enlist! Collaborate each week on community projects as we deploy public art around town. $25. (V)

Castle Camp: Entering Grades 1 – 5
July 23 – 27, from 1pm – 2:30pm Monday – Friday
Kids bring the imagination and energy. Adults facilitate the use of tools and design. Kids learn basic tool techniques and use pallets to build up a fort city on the SCA lawn. $25. (V)

Eat the Arts Center: Grades 5-12
August 6 – 11 from 1 – 3pm
There’s an invasion of giant monsters and they are hungry! Build large outdoor creatures with cardboard, wood or paper and let them nibble on the bell tower. Save yourselves! $25. (V)

Puppetry (MS/HS)
August 13 – 17 from 1 – 3pm
Students will develop a story, create sets, create puppets and perform a show at the end of the week. $35 (AU)

Graphic Novels – Where Artwork meets Language (MS/HS)
July 16 – 20, 1-2:30pm Middle School, 3-4:30pm High School

This class will be a combination of writing and drawing and will challenge the students to share their vision through both words and images. Students will create an illustrated short story in graphic novel format.  Each participant will write their own story and then develop a unique visual language, resulting in a three to five page graphic novel. The week concludes with a “Comicon” on 7/21 from 6 – 8:30pm. $35 (AU)

NATURE + ART

Great for ages 5-12, these little adventures inspire big ideas in little people. Different guides and locations for each session. Designed for parents and siblings to walk along with the official participant, the session pairs a simple art activity with the surrounding natural beauty. Call for directions to sites. Signs will be posted. $5 per student / session. Minimal materials provided.

DSC02500Nature + Art Walk 1: July 28. 9:30am – Noon
Nannen’s Aboretum, Ellicottville. An eight-acre arboretum and botanical garden contains over 250 species of trees, shrubs, flowers, and herbs. It includes several Japanese gardens, a pond with fish, and a large herb garden. Meet at the Art Center. We will then travel to the Aboretum and meet with a representative and participate in an art activity.

Nature + Art Walk 2: August 4. 9:30am – Noon
Nature Sanctuary of WNY’s Houghton Preserve. This preserve features many unique and endangered plants. Meet at the Art Center. We will then travel to this local preserve where we will meet the custodian of the Houghton Preserve (formerly East Concord Bog), get a tour and participate in an art activity.

Nature + Art Walk 3: August 11. 9:30am – Noon
NSSWNY’s Clifford Furman Preserve. This preserve features giant hemlocks, and unique orchids. Meet at the Art Center. We will then travel to this local preserve where we will meet the custodian of the Clifford Furman Preserve, get a tour and participate in an art activity.

MEDIA ARTS

IMG_0276Short Film Camp: Grades MS/ HS
July 16 – 20, M-F, 9am – noon
Work with peers to produce a short video. Learn camera techniques, sound and production skills. Script to Screen in one week. $45. See Media Combo Pass and save money. (V)

Stop Motion Animation: Grades MS/ HS
July 30 – August 3, Monday-Friday 1 – 3pm
Create a short film using legos, clay or paper and a tried and true animation technique. Bring your ideas. $35. (V)

PERFORMING ARTS

Saturday Improv: Grades: MS / HS
Saturdays 12:30-2:30, 6 sessions June 23 – August 4
Do you want to learn how to think quickly on your feet? Do you want to learn some basic comedy skills? Do you want to become more comfortable talking in front of others? If you said yes to any of these, then you should attend our improv class! Big hit last year! Weekly sessions include theater games, improv exercises and a lot of laughs. $29. (MT)

Mondays 10am-11am, July 9 – August 13
Introductory chorus with SCA interns. Final concert TBA. $18. (MT)

Dance Now: Ages 5 – 8 years old
Wednesdays, from 10-11am, July 11 – August 15
In this dance class, students will explore the basics of various dance forms, including Ballet, Jazz, and Modern. Each hour session will incorporate 45 minutes of instruction with 15 minutes of free dance at the end. Bring a water bottle to every class, wear clothing that is easy to move in, and shoes that have a flat / slippery sole or dance shoes (jazz shoes, ballet slippers). With Liz Bligh and SCA Intern Tyler Lord. $60 (AU)

Ukulele I & II: Grades MS / HS
July 23-July 27, Monday – Friday, 10am-11am
Open to anyone who wishes to learn how to play the ukulele or wants to fine-tune their ukulele skills. You will learn basic strum patterns, plenty of chords, and many songs. For those with some musical background. More advanced students will move to UKE II which runs at the same time and place. $25. Bring a Uke if you own one or rent one for $5. We separate the kids based on skill. Runs at the same time. (V)

THEATER

Pippin (SLAM): HS and College
Auditions have already taken place, and parts have been cast but there is still time to sign up! Join the ensemble, pit, stage crew and more in this full stage production of Pippin. Rehearsals begin June 26. $20

Children entering Grades 3-8
Auditions Thursday, June 28, 12-3pm
Rehearsals: 7/2-7/6 & 7/9-7/13 from 12-3pm. Performances: 7/14 at 4pm & 7pm. In this process-oriented camp, kids will explore the building blocks of musical theater and participate in fun activities resulting in a full theater production on the SCA main stage. $60. Auditions: 7/26 from 2pm-5pm
Rehearsals: 7/30-8/3 & 8/6-8/10 from 1-4pm

Musical Theater Essentials
Children entering grades 7-12
July 31 – August 11, Monday-Friday, 10am-Noon, Performance August 11th at 8pm. Back by popular demand! Learn stage combat, vocal techniques, movement, audition techniques, how to read a scene and more in this camp for aspiring stage performers. $60. See Arts Super Pass below for discounts. (MT)

Technical Theater Camp
Entering grades 6-12
Mornings or Afternoons: Work with each production over the summer or pick and choose. Join the tech crew. Work hand in hand with the production team and SCA summer interns for each show. Learn how to hang lights, paint sets, run sound, do makeup and design costumes. Pick one session or come to all for the price of one. An instructor will call to customize your child’s schedule. $20.
