Summer 2012 Children’s Programs
Springville Youth Incorporated presents this great slate of children’s art workshops in partnership with Springville Center for the Arts. All workshops at SCA, 37 North Buffalo Street unless otherwise indicated. Locations subject to change. Many workshops venture outside and parents are required to fill out a permission slip. Any specific art supplies are included in the registration price.
Register online at SYI’s Website or register in person at the pool house, South Buffalo Street, June 13 & 14 2-7pm . Walk-ins are allowable but space is very limited.
Pre-K
Once Upon a Time: Preschool Theatrical Storytelling Hour
June 7th- August 9th, Thursdays from 10-11am (10 sessions)
Nobody knows drama like a three-year-old. This storytelling hour for Pre-K children uses elements of theater, music and visual arts to engage children in books. Using creative exercises and theater games that get kids moving, students will explore theater and the four elements of dance: space, shape, time and dynamics. Musical Theater Camp 1: Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory!

Our ever-popular theater camp returns! In this process-oriented camp, kids will explore the building blocks of musical theater and participate in fun activities resulting in a theater production that will knock your socks off. The camp so nice we run it twice! Following the same format as Musical Theater Workshop 1, the students work together to stage a production. It is not necessary to take the first workshop to participate in this one. $55. Grades 3-8Et Tu Shakespeare?

If all the world’s a stage, why not put the middle-schoolers on it? Learn to insult the Elizabethan way you rank base-court mumble-news! This workshop stages a modified Shakespeare program. Behind the Scenes: Technical Theater Camp
July 2nd-23rd, Mondays 6-9pm (4 sessions)
Lights! Sound! Experience the varied crafts of theater production in this immersion workshop for young tech crew. No prior experience necessary. Students will assist in the annual SLAM (students loving art and music) summer musical, learning technical theater basics, such as lighting, set construction and sound. $30Stop Motion Animation

Need a laser, rain storm or earthquake? How about a subtle string cue to create a little tension? Take your animation project to the next level! Designed for students in the Stop Motion Animation Class, this workshop taught by filmmaker Seth Wochensky covers the basics of recording good audio, designing a sound track for your short, foley recording and developing a score. $30

Off the Wall: Mural Camp

Make a bold statement. Students will craft the design and then install a large-scale mural in downtown Springville. Artist Max Collins who was recently featured in our gallery will guide the process with his wheat pasting technique. $45Digital Art and Photography Camp
July 3rd-August 14th, Tuesdays 6-8pm (8 sessions)
Capture the image. Process. Make it your own. Covering the basics of digital art and photography, this class will focus on topics such as composition, printing methods, Photoshop and photo finishing with a focus on group work in the field. Instructor Nathan Holme will lead the class culminating in a makeshift, culminating exhibit. $50Rhythm Camp

Learn the essence of rhythm in this interactive workshop. Instructors Steve Bell and Charlie Houseman provide a slew of instruments from around the world and work with students to create multi-layer percussive jams. Great for adults too.
