Springville Center for the Arts once again welcomes four visiting students as part of the Summer Children’s Theater Internship program. The interns begin by producing an educational theater production accompanied by workshops. This year they will bring the show to Springville Elementary, Colden Elementary, Gowanda and West Valley. This year marks a new program in partnership with the Children’s League to develop theater programs for the disabled. Later in the summer, these visiting students will work as part of the SYI summer workshops working with students ages 2 to 22. Offerings this year include Musical Theater Camp, Playwriting, Shakespeare, Improvisational Comedy, Beginner Ukulele and more. Other visual arts and filmmaking programs are also offered by the Arts Center and SYI.
Jackie Blasting is a Junior BFA Musical Theatre student at SUNY Fredonia and a native of Syracuse, NY. Jackie was last seen as Nellie Forbush in the Fredonia Commencement Eve Pops Concert South Pacific. Other recent roles include Lana Sherwood in It’s A Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play, which was produced through the Theatre and Dance Department at Fredonia, and Jordan Baker in the National Endowment of the Arts Big Read Production of Gatsby. Jackie also performs as a pianist and accompanist; her most recent show being Natalie: A New Musical , an independent project written by one of her colleagues. She was also an intern and assistant music director for Camp Broadway, a summer theatre program held at Fayetteville-Manlius High School tailored for middle school students.
Emily Babin was raised in Louisiana until the age of eleven, when her family moved to France. After living there for five years, she moved to Saudi Arabia for two years. In France, she performed with an amateur English speaking theatre company, The International Players. For two summers she attended Rutgers’ Summer Acting Conservatory in 2012 and 2013 for musical theatre, and then again for their Advanced Track. She was accepted into Ithaca College’s class of 2018 for their BA Theatre Studies Program and is pursuing a dance minor.
Anna Baldwin, born and raised near Annapolis, Maryland, has been helping with theater productions since high school. Anna is currently working toward a Theater and English undergraduate degree at Washington College, and has recently returned from a semester at University College Cork, Ireland. This fall will mark the beginning of her senior year which will include a thesis that is a collaborative experimental theater production that she will direct. She has worked in theater as a director, stage manager, designer, stage crew, scenic crew, and actress both through the college and with outside theater companies and is excited to learn more and continue to grow as an artist.
Justine Collins is from Collinsville, Connecticut. She graduated from The Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts in June 2014 after studying in the Musical Theatre program. Currently, she studies in the BFA Musical Theatre program at SUNY Fredonia, and will be a sophomore in the Fall of 2015. Some of her favorite roles she’s played have been Lucinda in Into the Woods, Arminy in Carousel, Holofernes in a break dancing Shakespeare production of Love’s Labour’s Lost, and Olive’s Mom in 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. She has also worked as a film actor in education videos for the Sadlier textbook company.
