From the ashes of years gone by, Grass Act has been resurrected and is quickly becoming WNY’s hottest blues grass band
Grass Act formed in the early 1990s out of the monthly bluegrass jams in Bennington, NY. The band has performed all over Western New York, including many times at the former Borders Books & Music in Buffalo, the WNY Dairy Festival in Springville, and the Sea Serpent Festival in Perry. Grass Act wowed audiences at New York bluegrass festivals in Otisco, Corinth and Addison.
Members include:
Jeremy Huber. Jeremy has been playing bluegrass and acoustic music in the Western and Central New York area for the better part of the past 20 years. An exceptionally gifted instrumentalist on guitar and upright bass, he is particularly skilled with the 5-string banjo. He has performed extensively with regional acts such as Dempsey Station and the McCarthy-Paisley Band. A dynamic, energetic player and supportive vocalist, Jeremy brings to the group a flair for arrangements and attention to detail that help the band define and focus its sound. In addition to bluegrass, Jeremy has an interest in Celtic, Scottish, ethnic folk, and roots music and can be seen playing and singing at jams and open mics in his hometown of Buffalo, NY with the ensemble Panthalassa
Skip Tillinghast. Skip, a native of Arcade started singing in honky tonks at the age of 4. He took up the guitar at age 8 and started playing bass in his high school garage band. Some of the groups he has played with are include such unforgettable names as the Gamblers, Backside of 30, Coyote, and the Mustangs.
Stan Puffer. Stan a native of Muskegon, Michigan, has played with some of the top local bands, including: Country Poorboys, the Highriders, and the Niagara County Ramblers. Stan is currently a member of the Jesus Band and also plays bass guitar. During his free time Stan enjoys spending time with his 11 grandchildren
Mike Hewlett resides in Pembroke and is a native of Rockaway Beach, Long Island. In addition to mandolin, Mike plays guitar and drums. He was a member of the Niagara County Ramblers for five years before founding Grass Act with Stan Puffer. Mike also enjoys jamming with his mandolins, and cites meeting Doyle Lawson as a highlight of his musical career.
Combining all this talent can only mean one thing: A new sensation in the bluegrass genre.
