Philip Carli Returns with a Douglas Fairbanks Adventure-Comedy

In the climatic scene of The Mollycoddle, the main character, played by the great Douglas Fairbanks, and a thug tumble down what has to be the steepest ravine known to man. This is the type of feat Fairbanks never shied away from and led to a great career in early cinema. The Mollycoddle puts Fairbanks as a Europeanized dandy who forgot the rough, frontier skills of his forefathers in Arizona. Springville Center for the Arts will present the adventure-comedy with a live soundtrack performed by Dr. Philip Carli on Saturday, July 13 at 8pm.
Fairbanks, best known for his swashbuckling roles spent the early part of his career making comedies. He was the founder of United Artists and the Motion picture Academy. While Fairbanks’ popularity waned after the advent of the talkies, the director, Victor Fleming, went on to direct both The Wizard of Oz and Gone With the Wind.
Dr. Philip Carli is the house accompanist for the George Eastman House. He has performed at the Berlin Film Festival, Museum of Modern Art, National Gallery in washington, and numerous festivals and cinemas across the world. He has recorded soundtracks for the Library of Congress, Turner Classics and AMC.
Springville Center for the Arts is located at 37 North Buffalo Street, Springville. Tickets are available at the door for $5. This program is supported by New York State Council on the Arts.
