Paint and gild your own version of a page from a 12th century book of beasts, the Aberdeen Bestiary. Learn how to apply gold leaf and paint in the medieval artist technique, illumination. Explore some history of the art of illumination while you paint and guild your way to a frameable piece of art. Students will learn basic watercolor painting skills along with the technique of applying gold leaf. You will create a facsimile or emulation of one of four beasts provided for you. You will use composition gold leaf, and watercolor on 140 lb. watercolor paper. The outlines will be done in advance so that students can focus on the gold leaf and watercolor.
