Songwriter Showcase

Saturday, April 18, 2020 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

With great sadness we must cancel this show. Please stay tuned for a rescheduled performance!

Kody & Herren co-host Songwriter Showcase, each artist performs their original songs acoustic “in the round” while also sharing the stories and inspiration behind them in a casual setting.

Kody & Herren

Influenced by a wide range of Rock, Blues, Country and Traditional Folk music, Nick Kody and Lydia Herren offer a unique and diverse interpretation of the Americana genre through both their recorded work and live performances. Based in Springville, New York, both musicians are multi-instrumentalists, performing on guitar, violin, harmonica, piano, and more. Nick and Lydia’s original material is inspired heavily by roots music and their duets provide a strong chemistry on stage. Vocal harmonies and the overall dynamics of a song are very important to them and they aim to entertain an audience.

Sara Elizabeth

Sara Elizabeth is an indie alternative singer/songwriter from the Buffalo area, and a regionally touring musician. Influenced by other indie artists such as Mumford and Sons, Andrew McMahon, and Death Cab For Cutie, as well as influential female singer/songwriters such as Janis Joplin and Joni Mitchell, her carefully crafted lyrics tell real stories of a twenty-something musician. Sara’s gritty and heartfelt songs and elusively quirky stage chemistry leave audiences inspired and wanting more. As Jeff Miers (Buffalo News) has said, “Bringing an indie-rock mentality to the modern folk-based troubadour school is Sara’s deal, and it’s working…she’s become one of the more buzzed-about artists on the indie-pop scene.”

Tyler Westcott

Tyler Westcott is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist based in Buffalo, NY. He is perhaps best-known as the founder and frontman of the bluesy roots band Folkfaces, but is also an active member of other various projects including The Observers, The Paper Roses, Banjo Juice Jazz Band, and Black Rock Zydeco. Introduced to writing and performing music at a very early age, Westcott drew influence from traditional jazz and folk artists such as Django Reinhardt and Woody Guthrie, respectively. Singing hearty melodies with occasional falsetto leaps that evoke heartache, Westcott really embodies the blues, as his feelings seem to pour outward into every listener’s soul. His quick-moving lyrics tell stories of love and heartbreak, perseverance and letting loose.

The Bellow & The Whale

The Bellow & The Whale is the artist collaboration of Bianca “B” Black (DC) and Julia Lee Norris (Buffalo, NY). The duo uses overlapping thematic elements, imagery, and sound to erode the distance between the way we choose to see the world versus what is actually there. They experiment with harmony and vocal timbre, pulling in a range of emotion, from joyful and powerful to mournful and haunting. Their music draws on various genres and styles but is heavily rooted in soul and folk, with accents of pop rhythms and undertones. They explore and create as a way to connect with the world around them and to bring people together.
