Plein Air Painting at the Olmsted Camp

Tuesday, September 28, 2021 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

Paint in the exceptional beauty of Camp Olmsted with its singular location overlooking the Cattaraugus Creek Valley and distant hills. Olmsted Camp’s rich history embodies rustic, arts and crafts inspired buildings, and abundant trees and fauna. Enjoy a morning demonstration from Southtowns artist/instructor Jennifer Koury, focusing on simplifying the landscape into foreground, middleground and background, and using value structure to compose a pleasing composition and focal point. Participants will choose their unique view to paint en plein air (in the open air) and receive guidance from the instructor. All mediums are welcome. Please bring your plein air supplies including a sketchbook, chair and hat, bag lunch, and hydration. $55/ $50 SCA members

Jennifer Koury, an avid painter, delights in the play of light and color on forms to create atmospheric moods in both her plein air and studio works. Her art exhibits her passion for the effects of the natural world, including wind, water, shadows, reflected light, and the emotions they create.

During the past several years, she has been an instructor in watercolor at the Burchfield Penney Art Center’s International Center for Watercolor. In 2018, she was their Summer Resident Artist/Instructor, teaching a weekly series of watercolor workshops inspired by the exhibition, Suddenly I Awoke: The Dream Journals of Charles E. Burchfield.

Koury has enjoyed a rewarding career as a dedicated painter, a freelance illustrator, and designer. Her watercolor artwork is published in both children’s and adult books. She has exhibited her paintings in one woman and gallery exhibits throughout the US. A previous finalist in the Chautauqua Annual Exhibition of Contemporary Art, Koury’s work can presently be seen in both private and public collections. Her work is featured at George Washington’s Mount Vernon and the children’s wing of Yuma Regional Medical Center. Three of Koury’s paintings, inspired by and evoking the three movements of Milhaud’s Quatuor à cordes No.1, Op. 5, were an artistic centerpiece featured in A Musical Feast’s video performance. Please visit the video link below. She is a signature member and on the Board of the Niagara Frontier Watercolor Society.

Koury is represented by Meibohm Fine Arts, East Aurora, NY, and she is a featured artist in Luminance, an upcoming four person Group Watercolor Exhibit, Friday, April 29, 2022 – Saturday, May 28, 2022 at Meibohm Fine Arts. Visit Koury artist page link
