Welcome spring with creativity and sustainability! Join Mary Hermans of Nexus Botanical Arts for a hands-on seed paper making workshop where you’ll transform recycled paper into beautiful, plantable creations. Learn how to blend, shape, and embed wildflower seeds into custom sheets, perfect for cards, gift tags, or planting in your garden. Attendees will leave with 3-5 sheets of handmade seed paper and DIY instructions to continue the craft at home.

A visit with Ol’ Paint is sure to set your mind at ease and your toes tapping. Band members Neia, Phil, and Tom are all skilled musicians trained in a variety of instruments, including: guitar, banjo, ukulele, harmonica, and vocals. They’re known for their great stories, nice harmonies, and pleasant accompaniment.

In this two-part workshop, create a medium size handled basket that is perfect for the farmers market or storing things at home. Participants should plan to bring an old towel, bucket, tape measure, straight end screwdriver, and sharp scissors. With Ellen McCarthy.

Writer’s Open Mic will be held on April 9th from 6-8pm at Art’s Cafe.

Gyotaku is the traditional Japanese method of printing fish, used by fishermen to record their catches. In this class, we will use latex molds of a variety of sea creatures and plants as our printing plates. With Janet Vedder.

A weekly evening of jazz standards from the 40’s to the present, selections from the Great American Songbook, and a touch of Latin too. With a rotating group of musicians.

The Greenskeepers are a group of volunteers who tend the rooftop garden at Art’s Cafe. This class will focus on “I Love,” the Heart Chakra, associated with our capacity to love, the seat of our compassion and connection, and transcendence of fear, also referred to as the gateway to our inner gardens. You will use traditional Suminagashi marbling and Ebru paint techniques to work through a comparison contemplation of grayscale and the traditional Heart Chakra color of green to create our own complex gardens.

Enjoy beginning figure drawing based on a live model. Experiment with several charcoal techniques to develop a beginning understanding of the figure and proportions. With Jennifer Koury. 

This is an introductory dance workshop for theater lovers! With soundtracks “All That Jazz” and “Cell Block Tango” from the hit musical Chicago, participants will learn contrasting jazz dance styles, exploring the distinction between subtle and sharp sensuality. Suggested for ages 18 and up. With Charles Fuller.

High school students from Springville and surrounding rural school districts will be invited to exhibit their work at Springville Center for the Arts Olmsted Gallery.

Bring a song you have written or are working on. Share with others. With the hopes of continuing to build a community of songwriters, Caleb Spaulding and Jon Hasz will host this monthly get-together. The group will meet in the basement workshop in January, February, and March.See the progress as they share their work in the dining space on April 17th. 

A guided tour through Erie County’s Franklin Gulf Park’s scenic highlights as seen through the eyes of professional photographer David Reade. This excursion will feature gorgeous views, beautiful creek vistas with plentiful picturesque small waterfalls; and impressive old-growth trees.

This three-part painting workshop will set the groundwork for better paintings over time. Geared for intermediate students, the focus will be the planning and design steps that result in more masterful paintings. The lessons will emphasize where and how you put paint down, shapes used, values arranged, and colors selected. The aim will not be on a single wonderful painting but rather smaller size paintings that allow for easy corrections. Participants will select their own media and subject matter to work with. Jessica is a Buffalo-based artist whose focus lies predominantly on fairy tale, folklore and mythology.  She works in pen and ink and watercolor and aims to keep the tradition of the Golden Age illustrators.  Her works have appeared in several children’s books, and she regularly participates in local festivals.
