All-Out-Arts is a summer program created by Springville Center for the Arts (SCA) in partnership with the Springville-Griffith School District, centered around exploring the visual and performing arts. SCA staff, interns, and guest artists facilitate painting, drumming, ukulele, photography, nature sculptures, choir, playwriting, dance, and independent studio time for children in Kindergarten through grade 8.
The theater aspect of the program this year focuses on a production of Roald Dahl’s James and the Giant Peach JR. Children from grades three through eight had the option of joining Theater Camp, where they would be cast in the play, or Arts & Stagecraft, where they would focus on crafting puppets, sets, lighting, and sound for the production.
Based on the book “James and the Giant Peach” by Roald Dahl, Roald Dahl’s James and the Giant Peach JR. is a theater adaptation perfect for young children. When James is sent by his conniving aunts to chop down their old fruit tree, he discovers a magic potion that grows a tremendous peach, rolls into the ocean and launches a journey of enormous proportions. James befriends a collection of singing insects that ride the giant piece of fruit across the ocean, facing hunger, sharks and plenty of disagreements along the way.
