Native Offerings Seedling Sale

Saturday, May 14, 2022 9:00 am - 2:00 pm

Seedlings available for purchase will include favorites such as peppers, tomatoes, lettuce, spinach, beets, and herbs. Native Offerings has selected varieties with disease resistance, flavor, and productivity in mind. Seedlings come in certified organic biodegradable peat pots, which can be planted directly in the ground.

Located on 180 acres of rolling hills in West Valley, Native Offerings Farm was founded by Stewart and Deb Ritchie in 1997. The farm follows the Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) model, a movement that reconnects the community to local farmers, a grassroots alternative to agribusiness. In a CSA, a consumer buys a share of a farm up-front, which provides financial security to the farmer for that season. In return, the consumer receives a regular box of fresh, local produce. CSAs are better for the environment than industrial farms, and are beneficial to local economies.

Farmer Deb will be giving a presentation about the basics of planting and farming for those interested in learning how to start their gardening journey or expanding their knowledge. She will also be making a donation of seedlings to Art’s Cafe for their Green Roof.

The Green Roof was installed on top of Art’s Cafe by trained volunteers and is maintained by the Greenskeepers, a group of volunteers coordinated by Springville Center for the Arts. The roof contains raised beds, traditional gardens, and areas of low-maintenance plants. Benefits of green roofs include decreased water runoff, improved building cooling, and reduced urban heat island effect. They also provide habitat for insects, birds, and wildlife.

The Seedlings Sale will take place Saturday, May 14th from 9am to 2pm at Art’s Cafe. Cash or credit is accepted. Art’s Cafe is located at 5 East Main Street in Springville.
