ROOT | PESTLE & MORTAR | INCENSE CREATION

Starting at the beginning with “I am,” the Root Chakra, is our sense of trust and security. It is our most instinctive chakra, governing our survival instincts and our connectedness to our bodies as vehicles that navigate our world. Students will explore the root chakra by learning how incense is made, and grind root, resin and other gifts from the earth to craft their own one of a kind incense charged for at home use.

SPARK!
Friday, January 31, 2025 - Friday, May 16, 2025 10:00 am - 12:00 pm @ Art’s Underground
This drop-off creativity program for ages 2 through 5 takes the Reggio Emilia approach of “process over product.”  Kids explore open-ended arts activities at their own pace, with the guidance of instructors. Painting, sculpture, loose parts, clay, puppet shows, instruments and more. The program will also include guest artists and walking field trips.

Discover the magic of transforming winter’s chill into wearable art! In this hands-on workshop, Mary Hermans of Nexus Botanical Arts will guide you through the process of using snow or ice as a dye medium, paired with natural plant-based pigments. You’ll create your own unique bandana to take home while learning the fundamentals of this truly cool technique. All materials provided.

Art Night: Dan Bryce
Wednesday, February 5, 2025 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm @ Art’s Cafe
Dan Bryce is the owner of Funderbolt Studios Toy and Game Design, whose clients include major toy companies like Spinmaster Toys, Fisher Price, and Mattel. He has a degree in animation and illustration from The Rhode Island School of Design and has been a professional toy inventor for over twenty five years. He specializes in illustration, 2D concept art and video production.  Dan recently finished a mural in Downtown Springville as part of SCA’s public art initiative, is on the SCA Board of Directors, volunteers as a gallery docent, and is a part of events like Art Crawl.

MORTAR SCULPTING

A laidback workshop where you’ll get a chance to unleash your inner creativity by sculpting a piece of art from your own block of concrete and marble dust. Bring a song you have written or are working on. Share with others. With the hopes of continuing to build a community of songwriters, Caleb Spaulding and Jon Hasz will host this monthly get-together. Speakers include: Ellen Owens, Adjunct Professor at Niagara University and Director of Castellani Museum;  Heather Gring, Archivist of Rare Books at Buffalo + Erie Co Public Library, artist’s model; Biljana Petreska, Roycroft Artisan in Photography, artist specializing in alternative photography and female identity centered self-portraiture; and Tami Fuller, Executive Director for the Roycrofters-at-Large Association, weaver and fiber artist using traditional women’s textile work as a medium to explore the female experience.
