The Art of Zoar Valley will be on display at the Olmsted Gallery this summer. The call for work deadline is April 18th.

The exhibit Where’d You Take That? by David Lawrence Reade will be displayed at Art’s Cafe from March 19th-April 26th. A reception will be held on March 27th at the cafe from 6:30-8pm.

High school students from SGI, Gowanda, Pioneer, Holland, and Cattaraugus-Little Valley will have their work on display in the Olmsted Gallery. Join us for a reception on Friday April 25th to view the work, meet the students, enjoy refreshments, and tour the building. 

Join us for a free night featuring the “Marble Man” Tom Militello. He will speak about his career and his artistry. Tom runs Comet Creations, a glass studio in Gowanda. Using nature as his inspiration, his work includes paperweights, bowls, plates, glass beads, pendants, earrings, perfume bottles and glass marbles — his specialty.

Bring a song you have written or are working on. Share with others. With the hopes of continuing to build a community of songwriters, Caleb Spaulding and Jon Hasz will host this monthly get-together. The group will meet in the basement workshop in January, February, and March.See the progress as they share their work in the dining space on April 17th. 

A guided tour through Erie County’s Franklin Gulf Park’s scenic highlights as seen through the eyes of professional photographer David Reade. This excursion will feature gorgeous views, beautiful creek vistas with plentiful picturesque small waterfalls; and impressive old-growth trees.

This three-part painting workshop will set the groundwork for better paintings over time. Geared for intermediate students, the focus will be the planning and design steps that result in more masterful paintings. The lessons will emphasize where and how you put paint down, shapes used, values arranged, and colors selected. The aim will not be on a single wonderful painting but rather smaller size paintings that allow for easy corrections. Participants will select their own media and subject matter to work with. Jessica is a Buffalo-based artist whose focus lies predominantly on fairy tale, folklore and mythology. She works in pen and ink and watercolor and aims to keep the tradition of the Golden Age illustrators. Her works have appeared in several children’s books, and she regularly participates in local festivals.

“Get in the Car” originated in the Buffalo Writers’ Theater Annual Short Play Showcase in 2023, and is now making its way to SCA with a new cast. There are 8 plays total, each of them lasting 10 minutes and inspired by the phrase “Get in the car.” Many are comical while some deal with more serious topics. With playwrights: Karen McDonald, Neal Radice, Tj Snodgrass, Jennifer Tromble, Tim Joyce, Allison Fradkin, Jenn Dlugos, Charlie Hatton, Madison Sedlor, Matt Boyle, and Mike Fanelli.

Calling all folkies! Curated by Ben Collier, Folk Night will focus on folk and traditional music hosted by a constellation of players. March and May TBA

A weekly evening of jazz standards from the 40’s to the present, selections from the Great American Songbook, and a touch of Latin too. With a rotating group of musicians.

Stephen G Eoannou will be hosting a Writing Class on May 14th from 6-8pm at Art’s Cafe.

This hike is a guided wilderness bushwhack through some of Allegany’s mostly unknown and seldom visited old growth forests, a couple of which are among the largest remaining intact ancient forests in the Northeast. Amble through enchanting landscapes where you’ll see some of the largest and tallest trees in the region, picturesque mossy-bouldered creeks featuring many small waterfalls, intriguing root formations and much more. These areas are unique and wondrous, a world left to it’s own devices, largely unaltered by man.

Learn the history of Bonsai, several popular styles of trees, and how to turn a hand selected nursery plant into a bonsai tree of your own. All of the supplies that you need to create your own bonsai including a hand selected nursery plant, bonsai pot, wire, soil, and pocket guide are included. With Trenton Lutes.

In this class, we’ll focus on “I Speak,” the Throat Chakra, associated with our authenticity and ability to speak and express ourselves clearly and truthfully. It’s associated with the color blue, so we’re going to weave our own intuitive sound waves and distress them with a dip in the indigo vat.
